When President John Kennedy asked Dr. Wernher Von Braun what it would take to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade, Von Braun answered simply, “The will to do it.” Romans 10:17 reveals, “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of God,” but so many lack the will to read the Bible.
Some will say, “I’m not a reader.” If one had a sincere will to flourish in their faith, would they not consider taking a reading course, or purchase the Bible on CD’s, or get a Bible app on their phone?
Our will, desire, determination, or passion is the mental ability to hold one idea in our mind, to the exclusion of outside distractions. Simply put; if we decide to prioritize the absorption of God’s word every day, and ignore on-coming distractions, our faith will grow greatly.
I don’t know anyone born with a pre-programmed desire to read the Bible as a way of life. Yet, once a person is born again of the spirit everything in life changes. Peter and John became fishers of men. Thomas and Nathanael left their doubts in the land of yesterday, and believers now study to show
themselves approved, handling accurately the word of the truth. We enter a new and living way of life (Heb 10:20) and are to walk out this new life by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7).
May I suggest you copy Mark 11:22-25, tape it on your mirror, door, dashboard, or nose and read it everyday for two months. See if your outlook doesn’t change for the better after two months. Better is a good thing right?
Don’t cheat. The Principle of persistence is of utmost importance. We are either going to grow or die. Nobody levels out and stays where they are. The tree that stops growing is dead. At the end of two months you’ll understand clearly how essential it is for Christians to read the Bible.
